Lyrics

Year of the locust

Back in Town

She believes age before youth

There’s a body of work

A kind of universal truth

Don’t come to her defense

There are days when

She’s not making any sense

Don’t wanna hear that maybe you're gunning

For more than a bargain, a practice in cunning

Don’t wanna tear the world down

Some days I think that may be you’re comin’

Landing gear is coming down

And you’re back in town

Only one place she wants to go

Inside herself to forgive

whatever she might owe

Please come to her defense

There’s a party of one

And she can’t afford the expense

Don’t wanna hear that maybe you're gunning

For more than a bargain, a practice in cunning

You wanna tear the world down

Some days I think you may be comin

Landing gear is coming down

And you’re back in town

Stole all the cash

from midnight mass

Headed downtown to score

Burned up your lines

Ignored the signs

You still want more

Still want more

Cardinal Line

Drew back the curtain and sighed

And opened one eye

As far as I could see

Just a gray liquid sky

I pulled down the almanac

To find the year the locust comes back

Because maybe by then you may find

Whatever sympathy you lack

Rode down the Cardinal line

Tryin to find a piece of my old self

In a bottle of wine

I’ll ride till you’re far behind

All the way from Brooklyn to Ohio

And the only thing that's mine

Born in the year of the horse

Never showed an ounce remorse

Til everything packed up for good

Maybe you’ll go back to the source

For some people life is art

Til everything you love falls apart

You learn not to care at all

And find your way back to the start

Rode down the Cardinal line

Tryin to find a piece of my old self

In a bottle of  wine

I’ll ride till you’re far behind

All the way from Brooklyn to Ohio

And the only thing that’s mine

Bridge

Every time I hear the this old train slowin down

I think I feel the beat of my old river town

So come on hurry up old train

Gotta get on down the line

Back to the place I love in old Over the Rhine

Rode down the Cardinal line

Tryin to find a piece of my old self

In a bottle of  wine

I’ll ride till you’re far behind

All the way from Brooklyn to Ohio

And the only thing that’s mine

Only thing that’s mine

Only thing that’s mine

Only thing that’s mine

You Shouldn’t Matter

Oh everything you say

And everything you do

Don’t amount to a thing to me

Every day it's one then two then three

Yet another reason

You shouldn’t matter to me

Oh one more broken glass

Another quarrel come to pass

Shouldn’t mean anything to me

Everyday it's one more blow by degrees

Yet another reason

You shouldn’t matter to me

Hey

Still some nights

In my reverie

You still don’t know

How to tell a lie and breathe

I thought I might

Then you disagree

I awake and try to fall asleep

Wake and try to fall asleep

Wake and try to fall asleep

Oh everything you say

And everything you do

Don’t amount to a thing to me

Everyday it's one more blow by degrees

Yet another reason

You shouldn’t matter to me

Matter to me

Matter to me

Matter to me

Matter to me

Go On

On no

I think you're saying something

I've already heard

Oh on

Your mouth isn't really moving

But i know I've heard every word

Go on

La la la la la la la la la Is

what I say to you

Go on get on

La la la la la la la la la

Is everything that’s true

Still hangin on

The history of us gets somehow forgotten

Have we ever learned a thing

Trying to move on

I look in your eyes

And hope I see something

It's obvious this bird has flown

Go on

La la la la la la la la la

Is what I say to you

Go on get on

La la la la la la la la la

Is everything that’s true

You’re still between the lines

Avoiding little mines

Created from words we should’ve said

I’m reading something wrong

The silence is a song

You’re always singing somewhere in your head

Bombed Out Town

Got your note the other day

You were driving through a bombed out town

To meet a man who’s name you couldn’t say

In a part of the world that’s turned upside down

Called that man we know today

He was on his way to God knows where

Said he’s goin there to stay

I only hope its true and not a dare

So much is gone

But the flowers still bloom for you and me

So much to be done

As far as the eye can see

Got your note the other day

You were driving through a bombed out town

To meet a man who’s name you couldn’t say

In a part of the world that’s turned upside down

In a part of the world that’s turned upside down

Stars Fell From Your Eyes

Where do you go when you run?

Where do you go when you run?

You said no words and still she understands

She doesn’t know you

How do you get so undone?

How do you get so undone?

The well’s run dry and burned up everyone

It's so hard to love you

I thought I knew

I thought I knew

But stars fell from your eyes

I don’t want to love you

Where did you go with that gun?

Where did you go with that gun?

You left someone without her only son

There’s no way to love you

I thought I knew

I thought I knew

But stars fell from your eyes

I don’t wanna love you

Don’t hide the ring

Don’t hide the ring you won’t take off

Don’t mean a thing

It don’t mean a thing cuz you can’t stop

No Answers

I can see you’re somewhere else

And I’ll go it alone tonight

Burning out but not burning up

I’ll be gone before you take flight

There’s no answer

to my questions

There’s no answer

to my questions

devil’s knocking at the door

Take my hands, take my clothes

I can’t go it alone tonight

Stop whispering, go higher

Then your gone before I take flight

There’s no answer

To my questions

There's no answer

To my questions

I can’t it anymore

I read the news

But it's yesterdays

Today I’m finding out

I still want tomorrow

So much to lose

But much more to gain

Refusing anything

We’ve tried to borrow

There’s no answer

To my questions

There's no answer

To my questions

I can’t take it anymore

I read the news

I read the news

I read the news

It was yesterdays

I Wanna Believe In You

Down, down in the depths of your heart

I think you believe

whatever anybody’s telling you

Once again, feeding the lies to feel smart

Why can’t you see

Why can’t you see

What everyone knows is true

There you go with your sheer fakery

Desperately wanting everyone

to believe in you

Sycophants fill up your soul vacancy

Why can’t you see

Why can’t you see

What everyone sees right through

I wanna believe in you

But I can’t

No I can’t

I can’t

No I can’t

With all we’ve been through

I wanna believe in the truth

But I can’t

No I can’t

I can’t

No I can’t

With all we’ve been through

Selfish and unaware

of the damage done

When you don’t ever fight fair

No ones really that impressed

Cuz you’ve confused hypocrisy

With being blessed

We all know the rest

Down, down in the depths of your heart

I think you believe whatever anybody’s telling you

The universe will repay you with gifts you don’t want

Why can’t you see

Why can’t you see

What everyone knows is true

I wanna believe in you

But I can’t

No I can’t

I can’t

No I can’t

With all we’ve been through

I wanna believe in the truth

But I can’t

No I can’t

I can’t

No I can’t

With all we’ve been through
